D.O.P.A.

On D.O.P.A.’s debut album Vivid Dreams, one can hear shades of jazz, rock, prog, and even electropop. All these influences blend naturally into D.O.P.A.’s richly nuanced sound, where the whole is coherent and distinctive. The album consists mostly of compositions by guitarist Timo Kämäräinen. It also includes two pieces by keyboardist Alexi Tuomarila, and one composed by drummer Tuomas Timonen.

In D.O.P.A., the brilliant improvisers Tuomarila and Timonen—well known from jazz circles—are heard in a more electric and rock-oriented framework than usual. The energy flows with bold pulses, and the joy of playing together bubbles over.

The members of the band share a long history together. More than ten years ago, Timo, Tuomas, and Alexi played together at such events as Tampere Jazz Happening, Turku Jazz Festival, among others. For various reasons, a long hiatus followed, but the dream of collaboration resurfaced over the years in several late-night and early-morning messages.

A couple of years ago the activity resumed – and weekly jam sessions began. As the amount of material grew and the overall concept took shape, there was an increasing need for an electric bass, and Juho “Mane” Kanervo joined the live lineup.
